FamilienRechner works out what families in Germany are entitled to in Elterngeld and Mutterschaftsgeld — completely, transparently and with no ulterior motive.

Why this site exists

The official calculators are correct but cumbersome, and they do not compare options. The commercial ones are easier to use but end a calculation with a form for a paid consultation. Something was missing in between: a calculator that models the rules in full, explains every figure, and works in two languages.

What we do not do

We sell no consultations. There is no enquiry form, no appointment booking, no referral arrangement and no advertising dressed up as a recommendation. Your data is passed to nobody, because it never reaches us in the first place.

Accuracy

Every rule has been checked against the statute and is pinned by tests that record the figures the law states. It remains an estimate all the same: there are many special cases, and the Elterngeldstelle decides. If you find an error, please report it — we will correct it and say what was wrong.

Funding

The site is funded by ads placed away from the calculators — never between an input and its result. Decline advertising and you get the full functionality with nothing held back.
